Tricky question! Yes I trust my vet that s/he will care for, diagnois and treat my pets. However I also believe that VET's start with minimal testing (which costs a lot) and then work their way up the ladder. Example, my dog chews everything now she is vomiting with a bit of diarrhea and she won't eat. The vet might A) send you home on pepcid also known at famotidine which s/he will charge you 20+ dollars for even though you could buy it at a grocery store for a few bucks. B) the VET could reccommend doing a CBC or Superchem blood work up panel with an Electrolyte screen too, maybe even a fecal exam. Diagnosis material are spendy this alone will be over 200.00. Then the vet might come out and say hey all the blood look great, and I can't determine what is going on without take a couple of Xrays which will start at 100.00 a piece. Remember the question, the complaint as to what is wrong with your dog. So now the vet goes and takes the XRays, and viola! The dog ate what appears to be every baby pacifier in the house! Darn, I was wondering where they all went! Hope you get my point here.
Now seeking advice and trying to diagnois on the internet is not harmful, only if you don't follow up with your vet. An educated client is a nuisance to the VET because they can rack up charges real quick if you let them. With a suspicion of what your dog did, you can research and then approach the vet. As with the complaint above the client could have said more clearly, I know my dog eats stuff, I need you to take an Xray. Because once the Vet find the foreign object you now have a 2000.00+ surgery on your hands.

I always follow my vets advice, but I do come on the internet to see what other people have to say and what they think.
The vet of course, the net has so much good and bad you don't know what too do. The vet went to school to learn these things and from experience.
I have a twelve year relationship with my vet. I totally trust her with my dogs. She shares with me concerning her own dogs and listens when I ask a questions. She says it is refreshing for me to bring my dogs in because she can tell they are cared for properly. She also likes the fact that even though I occasionally breed I never hesitate to get my dogs spayed/neutered if there is any chance they wont produce quality pups. She has even sent referrals to me when others want one of my Saints. I can call her 24/7 but don't abuse the privilege. She also provides me with a group discount due to the number of dogs I own. This didn't happen over night, it took years for me to prove myself as an owner. The horror stories I have been told about that she sees everyday. Now, the people on the Internet have come up with some very strange ideas. Some who's answers can only come from mental illness. I love my animals and would never trust their well being with anyone I haven't known for years. And some owners I've known for years I still don't trust. There is no recommendation on the Internet I would ever try without the approval on my vet! Only a fool would put their dogs in harms way from a persons recommendation by a unknown, unseen, in- attainable person. (including any advise I give)
Obviously the vet, since he/she can see my dogs, knows their histories and I can speak directly with the vet. With the internet I really do not know who is providing the information, and that person has never seen my dogs.

I believe in vet care for my pets. If you have a pet, you need a vet. Would you trust a childs health care to the internet or a doctor?
I actually use both and I am a veterinary technician. I trust my vet with my pets lives. If I didn't I would find someone who I could trust. I surely wouldn't go to a human doctor that I did not trust. Key to good treatment is being as informed on your or your pets medical health. Now days the Internet is a great service tool that makes it easier to get information that you need.
It depends on what I need to know. I ask my vet about a variety of things from handling certain behaviors to treating medical issues for my dogs. If it's a non-health issue, I will usually search the net to research it, then maybe check with the vet.
If it's a medical issue, I might consider something that someone suggests, but I still wouldn't do anything based on that suggestion without running it by my vet first to make sure it's okay to do.
When it comes to getting advice here, there can be a lot of things to learn if you know how to pick out the idiots who aren't really doing much good. I think some vets may suggest certain methods of treatment because they have seen it work, but maybe that's not working for ';my dog'; and someone on here gives an alternative option that maybe their vet suggested for them. Now I can go back to my vet and present this to him and see what he thinks. I wouldn't take medical advice from someone here and use it without consulting my vet, but it's a good place to get ideas for other options if the one your vet initially gave you doesn't seem to be working so well.
NOT TOO MANY FROM THE INTERNET , I USUALLY TRUST MY OWN SELF TO WORK THINGS OR PROBLEMS OUT !
